1954, I remember it so well. How could anyone that was in her 6th grade class at WJHS ever forget the impact and influence Mrs. Thayer had on their young lives? It seems there is always one teacher that stands out above all the rest that lives with you in all you do, and Mrs. Thayer was that one for me. Sixth grade studenta can be pretty unruly, but she had a way of maintaining order without raising her voice, but by making one want to behave. A rare talent. She was my first crush for an older woman.
When my wife and I were married in the early 60s, Mrs. Thayer attended out wedding and we still have the gold serving bowl that she and Mr. Thayer gave us. I finally got to hug that sweet lady, and I will always cherish the memory.
Now she's gone to reunite with Frank and the Lord. I know that eternity will be beautiful for two such beautiful people.
